Meghan Markle and Prince Harry hosted Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz for dinner in their Montecito, Calif., home amid tensions within the Beckham family, PEOPLE confirms.
PEOPLE understands it was a group dinner held at Meghan and Harryâs home, and the couple were not directly invited by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“Brooklyn and Nicola were invited prior to Davidâs numerous global birthday galas, so the timing is pure coincidence,” a source exclusively tells PEOPLE.
The source elaborated, “While it was an intimate gathering, there were several additional guests, including VIPs and film executives. Brooklyn and Nicola had a wonderful time and found Harry and Meghan to be particularly kind, caring and generous.”
The Sun was first to report news of the dinner.
A source previously told PEOPLE, “There are tensions between Brooklyn and Nicola and the family.”
Beckham, 26, and Peltz, 30, have been noticeably absent from the Beckham family’s recent functions, including David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebration, despite being invited, PEOPLE confirmed.
The insider added at the time, “The relationship is definitely not beyond repair. They love and are always there for him. Theyâre just hurt and disappointed that heâs now playing no part in family life.”
Amid the alleged family tension, Meghan and Harry’s sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, wore a tailored suit designed by Victoria Beckham to a British Fashion Council event in London on Wednesday, May 13.
The dinner comes amid ongoing tension within Prince Harryâs own family. He and Meghan remain estranged from the royals. During a candid May 2 interview with the BBC, Harry revealed that his father, King Charles, âwonât speakâ to him â and admitted he doesnât know âhow long [his father] hasâ as the monarch continues cancer treatment. Still, Harry expressed a desire to mend fences, saying, âI would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.â
After the alleged tensions within the Beckham family were revealed, Lexi Wood of Summer House called David and Victoria, 51, “the coolest” when reflecting on her 2018 relationship with Brooklyn. On the May 7 episode of The Viall Files, Wood said the Beckhams were a “beautiful family” and the “nicest” throughout their relationship.

Earlier this month, Brooklyn offered a rare comment about David amid the rumors of tension.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, published on Saturday, May 10, but conducted in early March, Brooklyn discussed his experience at the Formula E Evo Sessions in Miami at the Miami International Autodrome.
Brooklyn claimed his father helped inspire his love of racing when he was “very young.”
âItâs something that me and my dad bonded over. My dadâs had some pretty cool cars,” Brooklyn said, adding that he collects them with his favorite being a â1954 Jaguar, which I very rarely drive, only when the weatherâs perfect.”
