Fans Say Jason Ritter Is ‘The Spitting Image’ of His Late Dad, John Ritter
Netizens are marveling at how similar Jason Ritter looks to his famous late dad, whom he has spoken about during past interviews.
Hollywood star Jason Ritter recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight (ET), where he swooned over his beloved wife, fellow A-lister Melanie Lynskey. However, online viewers who saw the segment weren’t focused on the topic of discussion — instead, they zeroed in on Jason’s uncanny resemblance to his late father, the iconic John Ritter.

After the ET interviewer
brought up
how “obsessed” many women are with Jason’s wife, he
quipped
, “Yes, they are, and I understand why. We have a lot in common.”
After some playful banter and laughs exchanged, Jason
gushed
, “She’s such a humble person. She’s always been just about putting out the work […] And I’ve watched her throughout her incredible career.”

He then highlighted the beauty and fun within the outpouring of love and support from the fandoms of their popular TV shows, “Yellowjackets” and “Matlock.”
For the interview, Jason donned a smart-casual ensemble, including a cozy, dark-colored sweater and a blue t-shirt underneath. However, it was his facial features — striking blue eyes and charismatic smile — that caught the attention of netizens, as many compared his physical attributes to those of his father’s.

“He definitely has his daddy’s eyes. ❤️,”
opined
a Facebooker in the comment section of ET’s video snippet of the interview, which they shared on April 15, 2025.
Expressing a similar sentiment, another online spectator
marveled
,
“Oh wow [sic] he looks so much like his father.” “He is the spitting image of his father,”
reiterated
yet another observer, echoing the consensus of many.

Adding to the discussion, another person
chimed in with
,
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a man that looks more like his father, [sic] than him. It’s so crazy.”
“He even sounds like him,”
noted
a fellow commenter, while someone else
expressed
,
“Goodness, it’s crazy to see his face and the way he laughs. It’s like relying [sic] my childhood with his dad. Well done to him for making his own path though!”
Long before the internet marveled at Jason’s likeness to John, the “Gravity Falls” actor had opened up about the deeper, more personal imprint his dad left behind.
During a 2018 interview with Larry King, Jason reflected warmly on the comedic energy that filled their home — a household where laughter wasn’t just common, but constant. “My dad […] the certain drive that people like him have to make people laugh — it infiltrates every aspect of his life,” he
shared
.

Whether it was cracking jokes during dinner or putting something bizarre onto his teeth just to provoke giggles, John never missed an opportunity to bring humor into the room. He even persisted with gags long past their expiration date, until they became funny all over again.
But the light was extinguished too soon. Jason, just 23 years old at the time of John’s passing, spoke candidly about the sudden and shocking loss. His father had died from an aortic dissection.

Jason revealed that despite being right across the street from the hospital, John’s condition deteriorated so rapidly that nothing could be done. In the years since, the tragedy has spurred life-saving awareness.
Family members, including Jason’s uncle, underwent preventive scans, and many others, inspired by John’s story, had reached out for testing, with lives reportedly saved as a result.

“Could you scan me for the John Ritter thing?” was a
question
that became a quiet but powerful legacy carried forward by those his father never met.
In a
heartfelt 2015 interview
with ET, Jason offered another rare glimpse into his father’s legacy. While revisiting old family footage, including a tender moment of John sharing his son’s childhood excitement about a trip to the zoo, Jason’s smile gave way to nostalgia.

“I remember the first time when I saw him on TV and in the room at the same time, and I was like, ‘Oh, you don’t go in there and drink and be a weirdo and then come back out,'” he
mused
with a chuckle.
As the conversation turned to career parallels, Jason acknowledged the quiet pressure that once came with auditioning in comedy. Casting agents, still enchanted by John’s legendary humor, would shower his father with praise — and then expect the same spark from Jason.

“If they weren’t rolling on the floor after my first little joke, I was like, ‘This is… I’m a failure. I can’t do this,'” he
admitted
. Despite the weight of those expectations, he carried with him one simple but gorunding piece of advice from his father — “Just be yourself and try not to be nervous.”

The interview ended on a poignant note, as Jason looked toward the next 35 years of his life. “I hope I have a child by that point. I hope I’m sitting here doing a happy 70th birthday, ET,” he
said
.
It was a moment that gently echoed his father’s enduring legacy — a legacy not only of laughter, but of love, family, and quietly powerful wisdom passed from one generation to the next.

John’s life came to a tragic end in 2003 after he fell ill on the set of his then-new sitcom, “8 Simple Rules… For Dating My Teenage Daughter.”
Though initially treated as a heart attack, it was later revealed that he had suffered an aortic dissection — the same silent and devastating condition his son would later speak about with clarity and courage.

passed away
at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, just days shy of his 55th birthday, surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues.
John is survived by his widow, Amy Yasbeck, the three kids he shares with his ex-wife, Nancy Morgan —Jason, Carly, and Tyler Ritter, as well as the son he shares with Yasbeck, Noah Ritter.

Best known for his role as Jack Tripper on the hit 1970s sitcom “Three’s Company,” John had a gift for physical comedy and charm that won over millions of viewers and earned him an Emmy. His enduring appeal stretched from network TV to Broadway, with standout roles in “Hooperman,” “Hearts Afire,” and films such as “Sling Blade.”

But beyond the accolades, those closest to him remembered him for something far greater — the joy he brought into every room, and the warmth with which he treated everyone around him.
That spirit lives on in
Jason Ritter
. Through every smile, laugh, and heartfelt word, he continues to honor his father’s memory. He does so not just by looking like him, but by embodying the very heart of who John was: a man who made the world feel a little lighter simply by being in it.
