Vanderpump Rules alum Ally Lewber is opening up about her interactions with Lisa Vanderpump after breaking up with James Kennedy.
“All I’ll say is she called me and she did make sure [to ask], ‘Are you OK?’ I mean, this was two months later,” Lewber, 29, said on the Wednesday, April 9, episode of “The Viall Files” podcast. “Certainly not the next day, but she called and checked in on me. She’s very protective over James and I get it. I was too.”
She added, “I think she feels almost like a mother to him, and I thought that was really weird at first when I got on the show. Then, I started to understand it more.”
Lewber started dating Kennedy, 33, in 2022, after his breakup with Rachel “Raquel” Leviss. Lewber and the British DJ ultimately broke up in December 2024 after an argument at a holiday party led to Kennedy’s misdemeanor domestic violence arrest. On Wednesday, Lewber stressed that she was never physically injured during the altercation nor did she press any charges against Kennedy.
Kennedy was released from police custody within hours before releasing a statement on the incident. The charges have since been dropped.
“I am committed to making meaningful changes in my life,” he wrote via Instagram Story at the time. “I am taking time to focus on my sobriety, personal growth, and being present for my loved ones. Navigating challenging moments is not easy but I am determined to learn, grow and move forward with the incredible support system around me.”
According to Lewber, Vanderpump, 64, eventually reached out in support of Kennedy’s recovery. (Kennedy relapsed in 2024 but is now reportedly sober again and regularly attends AA meetings.)
“She was basically, like, ‘Ally, he needs you. You’re really good together,’” Lewber claimed. “She was like, ‘You should go travel with him to his shows this weekend.’ I [had] just moved into an apartment, we’re not together. It was really weird … [and] I was weak in the moment. I was like, ‘Did I make the wrong decision?’”
Lewber further admitted that she “doesn’t know why” Vanderpump appeared to play matchmaker for the exes.
“It was a lot of, like, ‘Well, you were drinking too,’” Lewber said, adding that she’s “not afraid” of the restaurateur. “I’m not scared of her because what would she do? But, there is still a part of me [who] respects her in some way, which maybe I shouldn’t.”
She continued, “It felt like, ‘You guys are young. This is what happens when people drink. Ken [Todd, Lisa’s husband] was also a playboy and naughty when we were younger, and I had to whip him into shape.’ It was of that era of [being] a little misogynistic.”
According to Lewber, Vanderpump also told her that she would “kiss a lot of frogs” over the years — and probably even marry one — before ever finding her so-called prince.
“I was, like, ‘That’s so depressingly sad,’” Lewber recalled. “I don’t want to marry a frog. … I feel like that call goes so deep, and that cast goes so deep. I can see clearly more than everyone else [since I was a late arrival].”
While Lewber stressed that she wanted to end up with a prince instead of a frog, she’s not ready to start dating again.
“I’m not dating right now,” she said, saying it was “scary” to put herself out there. “I think I, obviously, have a lot of healing to do.”
