“The Most Disturbing Ad”: 14 Awkward And Outrageous Super Bowl Moments

On Sunday night, the Philadelphia Eagles won their second Super Bowl, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in New Orleans.

Thanks to their devastating defense, which stopped Patrick Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl MVP, the Eagles dashed their rival’s hopes of making history with a third consecutive victory.

But the Super Bowl is not only about football. Memes, celebrity guests, halftime performances, and bizarre commercials are some of the elements that turn the popular sporting event into a show.

Below, Bored Panda has compiled the most awkward and outrageous moments from the Super Bowl LIX.

People walking on a purple carpeted Bourbon Street during Super Bowl 2025.

“Thoughts and prayers for the new purple carpet on Bourbon Street,” reads one social media post reacting to Fox Sports’ decision to give the busy street a charming yet unhygienic glow-up.

Another user called carpeting the New Orleans street, famous for its many bars and strip clubs, “the most disgusting thing I could possibly conceive.”

“This will have to be certified a biohazard and a hazmat team enlisted to dispose of it properly,” a separate user joked.

The Chiefs tight end arrived at the Superdome in a loose-fitting, rust-colored suit with metallic accents on the jacket’s flaps. Some found the look over-the-top and reminiscent of 1970s fashion.

“All that’s missing is the Bee Gees theme music,” one netizen said.

Another added: “I think my uncle got married in that suit color in the 70’s.”

Kelce’s long, pushed-back locks also drew attention, with some speculating that the athlete may have traveled abroad for a hair transplant.

“Travis Kelce’s a** was in Turkey getting his new wig when he shoulda been in rehearsal!” one person remarked.

Whenever Taylor shows up to cheer on her beau, Travis Kelce, the camera finds her in the crowd, sparking different reactions from sports fans—some warmer than others.

This time, sitting alongside her friend Ice Spice, the singer responded to the crowd’s cold reception—first pulling a confused face, then laughing off the loud boos at the Superdome.

“Mind you she sold out this stadium several nights in a row,” one Swiftie noted. “Don’t worry. She will shake it off,” another quipped.

Even tennis star Serena Williams defended the Grammy winner, writing, “I love you @taylorswift don’t listen to those booo!!”

Man in a dark shirt during Super Bowl 2025 moment.

The Hollywood icon appeared in a prerecorded video before the show, delivering a speech about the Chiefs, the Eagles, and the championship’s legacy.

He described the game as “a mission that doesn’t come along very often,” a nod to his upcoming Mission: Impossible film, whose trailer had been released earlier.

However, people were more fixated on the 62-year-old’s appearance, with one viewer commenting, “It looks like he’s wearing a Halloween mask of Tom Cruise.”

“There is no greater pressure than that of his skin trying to stay stretched on his face,” someone else quipped.

This year, the controversial Church of Scientology’s commercial was particularly dramatic, featuring scenes of a man reading hieroglyphics by torchlight inside a cave, sword-fighting, and an astronaut launching into space.

“But what if the answer to every secret of the universe was not at the edges of the Earth or at the ends of the stars, but within you, waiting to be unlocked?” a voiceover asks at the end.

Confused by the commercial, one netizen wrote, “Imagine being converted to Scientology by a Super Bowl ad.”

“They actually allowed a dangerous CULT to advertise!” another exclaimed.

If a religious organization has $8 million to throw away on a SuperBowl ad, they are a business, not a religion, and should be taxed accordingly.

Tweet joking about Tom Brady and Super Bowl 2025 commentary.

Tom, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, was one of the commentators for the big game. Despite his undeniable talent and experience, many viewers felt his commentary was too self-referential, shifting the focus away from the players.

“Tom Brady announcing the SB and making every single comparison about himself and his experience is near impossible to listen to. Bring back @gregolsen88 !” one netizen complained.

“Puta finger down every time Tom Brady makes the Super Bowl commentary about himself,” another agreed.

The Coffee Mate ad, titled A Little Foam, A Lotta Fun, shows a man feeling on top of the world after tasting the company’s coffee foam.

Strangely, the camera then zooms in on his tongue, which moves from side to side to a song that says “I’m a dancing tongue and I like the taste of cold foam…have you ever seen a tongue do this?” Fireworks in the background and all.

The voice behind the tongue song was reportedly Shania Twain.

“The weirdest Super Bowl Ad so far for me,” one netizen declared. “Yeah. Wife walked in and saw this one and just looked at me,” another shared.

“It’s a boy! And it looks like he’s gonna like Westerns!” an ultrasound technician tells a dumbfounded couple in the Super Bowl commercial for streaming service Tubi. The image shows a fetus wearing a cowboy hat.

The ad then cuts to a teen version of the boy, who still has the cowboy hat on his head, and gets teased for liking Westerns, until he becomes an adult and is pleased to know that the genre is popular again.

“If it’s in you, it’s in here,” an on-screen text reads.

“This is sincerely the most disturbing ad I’ve ever had the displeasure of viewing on my tv. but thanks for the free super Bowl streaming I guess!” said one shocked viewer.

“Alright, two questions: 1: What? 2: Huh?” another observer commented.

During his performance, Kendrick—the first rapper to headline a halftime show solo—performed Not Like Us, a diss track aimed at Drake.

The track features a lyric referencing Drake’s accusations of dating underage women (“Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A-minor”) which the crowd was happy to sing along to in support of Kendrick, who is widely regarded as the winner of the hip-hop feud with the Canadian rapper.

“Cool he called out a p*dophile on a big stage. Not usually a fan of rap, but I liked this performance,” one viewer wrote, while another said, “I would like to see the face of Drake.”

Last season, Taylor Swift kissed her boyfriend on the field after he won his third Super Bowl title. This year, however, the couple did not share the same joy.

With the Chiefs losing 17-0 to the Eagles just before halftime, a Fox commentator couldn’t help but mention the tight end’s poor performance as his girlfriend appeared on the big screen.

“Well, Taylor Swift is in attendance… but she hasn’t had much to cheer about yet because Travis Kelce hasn’t caught a ball,” he said.

People did not expect the jab at the NFL star. “I SCREAMED. That was such a drag,” one viewer commented, while another wrote, “Hearing that live was CRAZY.”

By the end of the full 60 minutes, Travis had caught four balls from Patrick Mahomes with a total of 39 yards.

SEAL turned into a literal seal—or rather, a CGI version of one—for Mountain Dew’s ad.

The singer can be seen performing his hit Kiss From A Rose, but with a twist to promote the company’s Tropical Lime beverage.

“Baby, I compare it to a kiss from a lime on the bay. Ooh, the more I think of it, it’s strange I’m a seal, yeah. My flippers can’t hold Mountain Dew, it slips right on through, what a shame.”

“This is the most cursed Super Bowl ad I’ve ever watched. Definite nightmare fuel,” one viewer wrote.

“Seal literally being a seal is the best. But also, WHAT IS THIS?!” another person exclaimed.

Performers on stage at Super Bowl 2025, one holding a flag with "Sudan" and "Gaza" text.

During the halftime show, a demonstrator was detained after jumping onto a car used by Kendrick Lamar during his performance and unfurling a flag with the words “Gaza” and “Sudan” written on it.

The New Orleans Police Department said in a statement that it was “working to determine applicable charges in this incident.”

The protester was part of the 400-member cast of the half-time show, according to a report by Sky News.

Roc Nation, which produced Kendrick’s show, said the act “was not planned nor part of the production and was never in any rehearsal.”

While reactions were mixed, many viewers supported the crew member’s actions, saying they constituted freedom of expression.

Matthew McConaughey teamed up with Salesforce for a peculiar commercial in which he dines in the rain.

“The booking app I used didn’t have Agentforce, so an AI agent didn’t know how to move my reservation inside,” the actor says, sitting outside, soaking wet.

The ad, which also features Woody Harrelson, promotes the company’s use of artificial intelligence to “help restaurants prevent dining disasters.”

Many viewers found the commercial—and the service being advertised—pointless and confusing. “McConaughey, my guy, if it’s raining, move inside. AI is a solution to a problem that doesn’t actually exist,” someone wrote.
